本墓为明清时期回部白山派领袖阿巴和卓家族五代七十二人的家族陵寝，阿巴和加麻札即指“阿巴和卓家族之墓”。阿巴和卓后人波罗尼都、霍集占兄弟发动了大小和卓之乱，虽叛乱被清廷粉碎，但本墓仍被清朝政府完好保存。当代因香妃传说被附会为香妃之墓，喀什政府亦建设“香妃园”吸引游客。
