In the 10th century, Yarkand was captured from the Buddhist Uyghurs by the Karakhanids (Devlet-ul Hakaniye el-Turk), that is, the Muslim Uyghurs, and this mosque was built after the Buddhist Uyghurs here converted to Islam.
